The Canadian Yachting Association's Youth National Sailing Championship is the premiere national regatta for Canada's top young under 19 male and female sailors. The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS) is honoured to host this prestigious event in 2008, which is expected to attract more than 200 athletes along with their coaches, parents, and observers complimented by as many as 100 volunteers from across Canada.

The RNSYS, founded in 1837, has a long tradition of supporting racing including being the Club of Record for the Canadian America's Cup Challenge and training ground for a number of world-champion sailors. We are the Canadian home of the biennial Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race.

The CYA Youth National Sailing Championship is a qualifier event for the 2009 National Youth Sailing Team so it will attract the best youth athletes in the country in seven exciting classes including: Laser; Laser Radial; 29er; Club 420; Laser 4.7 and Byte CII.

In addition to the regatta which runs from August 9th to the 12th, an important component of the event is a two day training programme for all athletes. This Youth Olympic Training (YOTs) will bring together some of the top coaches in the country to provide valuable training to athletes who may not normally be exposed to such high caliber coaching. YOTs is an integral component of athlete development for the sport of sailing. While the Canadian championship places emphasis on excellence, it also has an element of development and is the first major regatta for many young athletes.

As a sponsor of the 2008 CYA Youth National Sailing Championships you will be demonstrating your commitment to the sport of sailing, the community, youth athletes and their families. All sponsors will benefit by being associated with the top youth regatta in Canada. This event is modeled after similar programs used in the most successful sailing countries in the World. With the help of the RNSYS, sponsors such as you along with strong coaching leadership and parental support, we will be able to maintain the regatta as the standard by which other youth competitions in Canada are measured.
